I know Devanagari but I never noticed this typo., never until I dug this story. Its a zig saw puzzle , with “wi” written all over its block with different languages Wikipedia supporting in their own script. NYTimes said “this time, however, they are not examples of vandalism at the user-created site but typographical errors in Wikipedia’s own logo.”. They noticed Sanskrit “wi” in Devanagari script. Someone else complained its Japaneses Katakana script is wrong too.
Some Errors Defy Fixes: A Typo in Wikipedia’s Logo Fractures the Sanskrit
The symbolism is not exactly ideal. Those on the lookout for errors at Wikipedia have flagged a few more — this time, however, they are not examples of vandalism at the user-created site but typographical errors in Wikipedia’s own logo.
Well well well , its Kannada script is wrong too. They have written some similar “wi” symbol (yet strange ) in kannada. In Sanskrit logo symbol reads “rwa” (as in Nirwana ), but in Kannada it does not make sence at all.

I dont have much of complaint, when they screwed Kannada’s mother Sanskrit itself- Kannada is what big deal.
Dear Wikipedia , in case you planned to repair your globe , change Kannada “Wi” too. Also just turn your zig saw puzzle , you might get more

Abey kitna free time hai be tere paas?? Logo ke peechhe kyun pada hai 😉

Hey I noticed one more error – Do you see the Inverted ‘N’ just below the English ‘W’ on the logo? Thats the Russian language and does not mean ‘Wi’. It is just the equivalent of english letter ‘I’. ‘Wi’ in Russian would be ‘BN’ (of course the inverted ‘N’, but I dont have it on my keyboard). Phewww… these wiki guys are really language illiterate…

I had blogged about this, too. Read:

It is not that the incorrect Kannada character was not spotted earlier. The problem is that the logo is some sort of Trademark belonging to Wikimedia foundation and hence there is tough chance of the change happening soon.

I dont think you should go around calling Sanskrit the mother of Kannada dude! If you say something on the web, please present substantial (usable) proof of that stuff! Else, dont say it.
At least because of the fact that there exists no proof of Sanskrit being the mother of Kannada language, I claim that Sanskrit is not the mother of Kannada. Besides there are several researches done (which I am sure you can trace in wikipedia) to prove this very point – Kannada and Sanskrit are of different TYPES and they cant be related at all. Its just that the new-age kannada that I and you use have incorporated a lot of (unwanted) Sanskrit terms for which we DO HAVE kannada equivalents.
Anyway, certainly thank you for the interest in pointing out error related to kannada “wi” on the wiki logo. Thanks!

Hello; please see the below link, where we are discussing errors in the logo for the purpose of fixing them. I have raised your issue there already. I couldn’t quite figure out which characters those are in your correction, please write on the page there to let us know. Thank you!
