I usually don’t miss first rains. I the odor they bring from year old dust.( Only first rain, not the second rain – the second brings smell from drainage 😉 ) .
There are several other aromas I like, I remember only some of them now. This is the list. If you have your favorite
aroma list leave it in comments.
- Dusty smell after the first rain.
- Coffee powder
- Teachers’ and Smirnoff aroma
- Petrol or diesel.
- Garlic , ginger, citric fruits
- Dipawali (Divali ) crackers ( specially after the festival )

i love the smell of a fresh morning, without fail it takes me back to growing up in the country.
also, I love the smell of a new magazine or book. makes me feel rich!

Without doubt… the smell of the soil after the first rains stands first in my list too and was fortunate enough to enjoy that just 2 days back 🙂
Then comes the smell of the Whiteboard markers(its sorta addictive..), the smell of the Mysore mallige/sanna mallige, smell of the new clothes/books, smell of the fresh air amidst those beautiful drives around western ghats..

@veenaji,
Don’t remember paint smell. But bellulli and ingu… Yes my favorites.
@prashanth,
I think most of the people like this “sondhi khushbu”. First I thought I am weird 😉
@srikanth,
Kenda sampige … hmm, not registered in my memories. Infact none of the flowers
@ramyaji,
The first and second you mentioned are very similier, smell of the dust. I like them. I hate the “sound” chalk piece makes on the board.… “Ksheeeeeeecchh”. May be Ill write a post on what sounds I hate?
And Western Ghats?? Thank you 😉
